Romans 2 : 1-5 , succinctly states and explains why we are not to judge others : " You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse ! When you say they are wicked and should be punished , you are condemning yourself , for you who judge others do these very same things . And we know that God , in his justice ,will punish anyone who does such things. Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God's judgment when you do these same things ? Don't you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you ? Does this mean nothing to you ? Can't you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from sin ? " (NLT)
The Bible states in 1 Corinthians 6:2 " Do you not know that the saints shall judge the world ? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?" I believe the scriptures that say " judge not, that ye be not judged" are saying if and when you judge you will also be judged ,by God, using the same measure that you use to judge others.
We are not to judge one another according to what we see, feel or think. We are to assess or "judge" by the Word of GOD. The Book of Samuel records how men look at the outward appearance, but GOD looks to the heart. To often when we judge we do so based on outward appearances and we don't recognize or acknowledge the Work of the Holy Spirit that is happening on the inside.
